Guidelines for the aps.ateneo.edu Mail System
The mail system is on the e-mail server, mail.aps.ateneo.edu, and
hosts user accounts under the aps.ateneo.edu domain.
On 10 August 2003, Sunday, the email server that is currently
being used by the APS community will be RENAMED as old-mail.aps.ateneo.edu
and a NEW mail server will be installed under the name
mail.aps.ateneo.edu. The new server will have a new operating system
with a full-featured web interface, email anti-virus, and better backup
systems.
For old-mail.aps.ateneo.edu:
All active user accounts will still be accessible by the same methods;
the only difference is the name of the server. However, the server will
be RETIRED on 31 October 2003.
For the new mail.aps.ateneo.edu:
The user database (usernames and passwords) will be the same as that of
old-mail.aps.ateneo.edu, but due to the large system difference
between the old and new servers, users will have to migrate their
account data (mail folders and addressbooks) manually before the
deadline above. Migration procedures can be found
here. All new
incoming emails will be received by this server starting August 11,
2003.
Accounts can be accessed from anywhere through a web interface located
at
http://mail.aps.ateneo.edu. Within APS-Rockwell, Outlook 2000,
Outlook Express 5, Eudora 5.1.1, and Netscape 7.0 can also be used with
an encrypted version of the POP protocol.
Instructions on configuring these mail clients can be found
here.
Sample screenshots of the web interface can be found here.
Important:
- The policies for the new system can be found
here.
- Users have the responsibility, and a personal stake,
in securing their accounts. Some basic guidelines on how to select a
good password can be found
